Key West is the southernmost city of the continental United States and is famous for Duval Street and its nightlife. The city of Key West encompasses the island of Key West, the part of Stock Island north of U.S. 1 (the Overseas Highway) (east), Sigsbee Park (north, originally known as Dredgers Key), Fleming Key (north), and Sunset Key. Key West is the county seat of Monroe County.
Surrounded by waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, Key West is a tiny two by five mile island. Key West is 120 miles west of the mainland. Often described as racy, raucous, bawdy, and brilliant, Key West is a unique place to live. The city derives its special vibrancy from a beneficent climate that’s never seen a frost and a rich history with restored architectural gems that serve as guest houses and museums. Approximately 28,000 people call Key West home and another 6,500 spend their winter here. Many thousands visit Key West annually.
